Chaplain

The Chaplain for Pastoral and Spiritual Care coordinates the functions and activities of the Pastoral Care Program. S/he provides pastoral/spiritual care to residents, their loved ones, and staff.  S/he offers education and training, as appropriate, for Saint Anne’s Terrace. S/he communicates and provides liaison with the religious community.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chaplain of Pastoral Care functions as an integral member of the Pastoral Care team with the following essential job duties:
• Helps foster the spiritual life of residents, families, friends, and staff, affirming others’ faith traditions as appropriate.
• Facilitate the implementation of programs such as support groups, interpersonal growth groups, and educational events to enhance the spiritual awareness and fulfillment of residents.
• Provide, support, or arrange for at least weekly liturgical services, Morning Prayer, and Bible Study.
• Initiate relationships with new residents in a timely manner.
• Support residents and their families during times of personal, health, or familial crisis, particularly at times of new diagnosis and end of life.
• Be accessible to residents and their families for counsel and support.
• Coordinate with family members and Resident Services for funeral liturgy and services as needed.
• Provide continuity of care for residents in the hospital, including visitation.
• Visit with residents in their homes or in common areas.
• Participate regularly in community-wide events.
• Counsel with residents, families, and staff concerning death and dying, grief/loss, depression, and loneliness.
• Regularly assess pastoral care educational offerings to ensure they engage and challenge participants.
• Partner with the Director of Resident Services to maintain a positive and professional work environment.
• Provide prayers and blessings for various events and meals as requested.
• Sunday morning coordination of Terrace residents to Saint Anne’s church with occasional liturgical responsibilities and preaching 2-3 times a year.
• Work with Saint Anne’s clergy to create programs for senior parishioners and Terrace residents for fellowship and learning.
• Make occasional visits to hospitals or other senior living communities for senior parishioners.
• Other duties as assigned.

JUDGMENT/ INITIATIVE REQUIRED:
Individual must be able to steward Pastoral Care resources, physical plant, programs, and resources. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal and administrative skills. Communicates in an open, positive manner with residents, families, staff, and the community.  Individual should promote a team concept.  Resolves resident concerns in an effective and efficient manner: practices good habits of boundary-keeping along with self-development.  Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and good problem-solving skills.  Remains flexible in time management while keeping a schedule of hours that promotes what is in the best interest of Saint Anne’s Terrace.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two (2) units of Continuing Pastoral Education in a program certified by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). It is preferred that s/he be ordained and/or supported by a Religious Body.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires the ability to hear, read, and write in English.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with residents, Associates, support agencies, physicians, and consultants.
• Must be able to remain calm under stress.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions.
• May not be a resident of St. Anne’s Terrace.
• Must be a team player within ST Anne’s Community.
• Ability to operate a variety of automated office machines, including a personal computer, printer, and copier.
